Our Founder

Shelia Marie is a native of Henderson, North Carolina. From her humble beginnings, the love of Jesus has given her a passion for women and children in need. This passion has remained consistent for over twenty years. Shelia Marie has served women and children in a variety of roles in the Garner and Raleigh, N.C. areas. Some of these roles were as a Youth Counselor for the Garner Road Family YMCA, Southlight and the Raleigh Rescue Mission. Shelia Marie has been employed with the NC Department of Health and Human Services since 2001 as a Processing Assistant IV. Shelia Marie is a financial contributor to St. Jude Children Hospital, Raleigh Rescuse Mission, Salvation Army, and other local charities.

The accumulation of this more than twenty year passion has resulted in the establishment of Sound Mind Ministry, (SMM). Sound Mind Ministry is a 501c (3) nonprofit organization which addresses the tangible needs of women and children. In addition to the spiritual and emotional needs, regardless of race, religion or socioeconomic status.

Shelia Marie is a Community Volunteer Sponsor for the NC Department of Corrections for Women. Shelia Marie is allowed to take inmates out on a six hour pass any day of the week where they engage in religious activities, shopping, going out to eat and other recreations that is allowed by the prison. This allows the inmates to prepare to go back out in society.

Additionally, through our community partners, we accept referrals for anyone who is in need of food, clothing, and have expressed an interest in receiving personal items or other services offered by our organization.

The future goal of Sound Mind Ministry (SMM) is to provide a safe transitional housing for women and children who lives are derailed due to various reasons and, consequently, in need of support to assist with a positive and smooth restoration. We desire to support a successful restoration by providing assistance with job skills, transportation, educational training, and other resources deemed necessary.
